This is a rare and technologically fascinating Seiko Elnix, reference 0703-7080, from November 1974, a true product of the innovative transitional period between mechanical and quartz watchmaking. The watch features a classic 70s cushion case in stainless steel, housing a beautiful deep blue brushed dial with applied indices and a day-date complication (with a Kanji day wheel). A standout feature is its rare and complex internally faceted acrylic crystal, which creates a brilliant play of light while keeping the outer surface smooth and far less prone to chipping than external facets.

The Elnix is powered by an advanced electro-mechanical movement. This hybrid calibre uses a battery for power but regulates time with a traditional, high-beat (28,800 bph) balance wheel, not a quartz crystal. This gives the watch the beautifully smooth sweep of a high-end automatic, combined with the grab-and-go convenience of a battery-powered watch – a unique piece of horological history.

The watch is presented in amazing overall vintage condition, particularly for a piece of this era. The rare internally faceted crystal is in great condition. The blue brushed dial is also in great, clean condition. The stainless steel case is in amazing shape, retaining its sharp, original brushed finish, suggesting it is unpolished. It has been fitted with a period-correct Japanese 'Bear' aftermarket bracelet that suits the watch very well. The watch has been tested and is both fully functioning correctly and keeping accurate time.
