January 1976 Seiko King Quartz (0853-8001) — from the era when Seiko was redefining what quartz could be.
In the mid-1970s, “King” still meant something very specific at Seiko. The King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines had set a standard for case finishing, dial work and overall execution. When quartz took over, that same design language carried into models like this King Quartz — sharp-edged case geometry, vertically brushed silver dial, applied baton indices and a clean framed day-date at 3.
The dial shows beautiful pillar brushing that shifts in the light, paired with crisp applied markers and the applied Seiko logo. Even decades on, the proportions feel very deliberate — thin bezel, wide dial opening and strong, angular lugs typical of mid-70s Japanese design.
This example presents very well for its age. The crystal is in great condition. The silver brushed dial is clean and bright. The case retains its sharp lines with honest wear consistent with age. It comes fitted on its original bracelet, which remains in good condition and suits the watch perfectly.
A strong piece from Seiko’s high-accuracy quartz period — understated, architectural and very much of its time.
