This is a superb example of a vintage Seiko 5 Actus SS, reference 6106-5440, dating from 1972, showcasing an iconic and architectural square case design from the era. The Actus line was a stylish offering aimed at the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), and the desirable 'SS' designation indicates 'Stop Seconds,' meaning this watch's 23-jewel 6106 automatic calibre features hacking capabilities. The quickset day-date mechanism is also fully functional, operating by depressing the crown. The watch is presented on what appears to be its original Seiko stainless steel bracelet.
The watch is presented in great vintage condition, especially for its age. The case is a highlight, being unpolished and retaining its original sharp, factory-brushed finish remarkably well, with only light signs of wear. The original acrylic crystal is in good condition. The silver sunburst dial is in great condition, showing only some very minor dirt upon close inspection. The original bracelet shows age-appropriate wear but is in good functional shape. Based on an overnight test, the watch is keeping decent time for a vintage automatic. The watch has been tested and is both fully functioning correctly and keeping accurate time within expected vintage tolerances.
